The APS Committee on International Affairs announced the three recipients of this year’s Beller Lectureship. The prize recognizes the work of physicists from around the world and brings them to the March and April Meetings.

This year’s awardees are Ulf-G. Meissner from the University of Bonn in Germany, Bene Poelsema of the University of Twente in the Netherlands and Xiaodong Yin of the Capital Normal University in China. Poelsema and Yin will travel to Denver, Colorado to speak at the March Meeting, while Meissner will speak at the April Meeting in Savannah, Georgia.

Meissner’s research has focused on hadronic physics and nuclear field theory. The Topical Group on Few-Body Systems and Multiparticle dynamics and the Division of Astrophysics nominated him for the prize.

Nanoparticles, nanostructures and hydrophobic surfaces have been the focus of much of Poelsma’s work. He was nominated by the Division of Material Physics.

Yin is a science historian who specializes in the history of physics in China. She was nominated by the Forum on the History of Physics.

Esther Hoffman Beller first endowed the prize in 1994. Each recipient will receive $2,000 in travel funds and will be honored at their respective meetings.
