Each year, the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), APS, the American Institute of Physics (AIP) and several of its other member societies sponsor this event that brings the nation’s 20 top high school physics students together for a ten-day physics training camp that is equal parts strenuous and rewarding.
After more than a week of intense studying, testing, and problem solving, five students were selected to be a part of the “Traveling Team” representing the United States at the 49th International Physics Olympiad in Lisbon, Portugal in July. This year’s traveling team is: Daniel Zhu, Michelle Song, Gopal Goel, YuQing Xie, and Anthony Ou.
“These are 20 of the most impressive, creative, enthusiastic students of physics you will ever meet,” said Paul Stanley, who is stepping down as Academic Director after 16 years with the team. “Any five could go to the Olympiad to represent the entire U.S.”
