APS Celebrates Science of Light with Art

APS joins with OSA and AIP to support a one-of-a-kind display of art and technology.

In honor of the role of light in science, culture, and life itself, the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared May 16, 2018 the first International Day of Light.

ARTECHOUSE

As part of the celebration, APS, the Optical Society, and the American Institute of Physics have partnered with ARTECHOUSE, an innovative Washington, D.C. art space that uses technology in dazzling displays. A new ARTECHOUSE exhibit by Nonotak Studio, “Naked Eyes,” opened on May 16 as part of the International Day of Light.

The exhibit features four immersive, imaginative audio-visual art installations that celebrate light and technology, which were designed exclusively for ARTECHOUSE. “Naked Eyes” is the first solo exhibit in the United States for Paris-based Nonotak Studio. Nonotak is known for innovative work in combining light and sound with custom technology to create one-of-a-kind art experiences.
