A Short-Wave Instability

The Division exists for the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of the physics of fluids with special emphasis on the dynamical theories of the liquid, plastic and gaseous states of matter under all conditions of temperature and pressure.

This page features stories and images related to the Division's 2009 annual meeting and other news related to fluid dynamics.

62nd Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics

November 22-24, 2009
Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Meeting brought together researchers from across the globe to address some of the most important questions in modern astronomy, engineering, alternative energy, biology, and medicine.

Image & Video Galleries

Every year, the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics hosts posters and videos that show stunning images, graphics and videos from either computational or experimental studies of flow phenomena. The most outstanding entries were selected by a panel of referees for artistic content and honored for their originality and ability to convey information.

The 62nd Annual Meeting Image Gallery highlighted a subset of submitted images and videos prior to the judging process.

Lay Language Papers

Lay-language papers are roughly 500-word summaries written by scientists about their own research. They are aimed at a general audience and posted with accompanying graphics and multimedia files. They serve as starting points for journalists who were interested in covering the meeting but could not attend in person.
